Lecture Information
On May 15, 2014, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation hosted the Honorable Jim DeMint, President of the Heritage Foundation and former U.S. Senator (R-SC). Senator DeMint is a leading figure of the American conservative movement. Among other things, his speech touched on the ideals that drive American politics, and how they relate to America's foreign, defense and trade policy, the US-Japan Alliance, and America's continuing commitment to the Pacific.
The Heritage Foundation, a research and educational institution based in Washington, D.C., was founded in 1973 to "formulate and promote conservative public policies based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual government, traditional American values, and a strong national defense." Entirely privately funding, today, it is among the largest and most influential think tanks in America.
