Project Outline
Amid rising tensions and uncertainty in the international community driven by armed conflicts around the world, and amid major changes in the regional security environment, the Nansei Islands, particularly Okinawa, have taken on increasing importance within Japan’s security considerations. Building on initiatives that have been carried out since FY2019, this project aims to foster a deeper understanding of security-related issues in Okinawa and to develop human resources. Key activities include training programs for the next generation of leaders in Okinawa, as well as a public symposium open to the general public in Okinawa. Through these initiatives, the project aims to establish a foundation in Okinawa for informed dialogue and thoughtful consideration of security issues.
