Project Outline
This project is a Track 1.5 security and defense exchange initiative organized by the Sasakawa Peace Foundation since 2014. It has primarily focused on Japan–Vietnam exchange program, targeting active-duty mid-level officers expected to assume senior roles within defense establishment, as well as Japan–South Korea exchange program involving retired general officers who maintain influence within the defense community.
Since the launch of Japan–Indonesia exchange program in 2024, the project has centered on Vietnam, Indonesia, and South Korea as its core partner countries. Building on these exchange programs, the project provides cross-service and comprehensive programs that leverage the strengths of a private think tank. Through these efforts, the project aims to strengthen mutual understanding among defense communities in Japan and Asian countries, and contribute to peace and stability in the region.
