Project Outline
Launched in 2014 as part of SPF's Track 1.5 security initiatives, this project supports defense exchanges between emerging mid-tier officials in the Ministry of Defense and Self-Defense Forces in Japan, the Ministry of Defense and People’s Army in Vietnam. The project also supports Japan-South Korea exchanges (retired generals from the Self-Defense Forces and the South Korean military).
In light of the start of Japan-Indonesia exchanges in FY 2024, this project will focus on Vietnam, Indonesia, and South Korea. Taking advantage of our strengths as a think tank, this project functions as a comprehensive, inter-military initiative that encourages mutual understanding between national security personnel in Japan and other Asian countries as a means of promoting peace and security of the region.
