Project Outline
In light of what some call a new Cold War between the United States and China, this project will review the significance of the U.S.-Japan alliance as a “public good” for the regional and international community. Specifically, this project seeks to redefine and examine Japan’s new role in the Japan-U.S. alliance with the ultimate goal of formulating national security policy recommendations. It also conducts joint research with think tanks in other U.S. allies to transform the network of allies from a hub-and-spoke system to an interlocking network. This research will take a data-driven approach to analyze actions and identify potential challenges that can be envisioned in various scenarios based on original data collected by this project. Furthermore, Table Top Exercises (TTX) will be conducted in cooperation with American think tanks to verify the results of this research and identify new issues.
