Project Outline
Over the last decade, SPF has collaborated with various actors from local NGOs to policymakers working toward conflict resolution in the Deep South of Thailand. As a result of this experience, SPF has recognized the central role of women in conflict resolution, which led to the launch of a new project to further explore the theme of women and peacebuilding. Women play many roles in conflict-affected communities and have an in-depth knowledge of local needs and challenges. However, opportunities for women to be involved in policymaking remain limited. As the United Nations continues to discuss the theme of “Women, Peace and Security, (WPS) ” this project seeks to re-examine the roles that women play in building peace. Targeting conflict regions and post-conflict societies in Southern Thailand as well as the rest of Asia, this project strives to identify the needs of local women and support cross-regional collaboration.
