This project aims to establish a scheme for managing over-tourism based on tourism carrying capacity surveys and to promote community based eco-tourism, which balances economic benefit and conservation of natural and cultural resources in the Republic of Palau. The outcomes of this project also will be shared in the Pacific islands region as an example of good practices for sustainable tourism. In addition, by mainstreaming sustainable tourism led by local residents, this project will contribute to rebuilding Pacific island societies weakened due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
