Project Outline
Amid rapid changes in the global order and the international security environment, sustained policy dialogue between Japan and the United States—grounded in an understanding of each other’s policy decisions and domestic circumstances—has become more important than ever.
Building on the network of policy researchers and practitioners in both countries cultivated by the Foundation, this project conducts sustained policy dialogue under Track 2 and/or Track 1.5 frameworks. In addition to addressing challenges facing the Japan–U.S. alliance, it also focuses on specific issues such as nuclear deterrence and advanced science and technology.
From a medium- to long-term perspective, the project seeks to generate insights that contribute to deeper mutual understanding and enhanced cooperation between Japan and the United States, while sustaining and further developing a cycle of policy input and feedback from the bilateral policy community.
