Project Outline
Amidst heightened global competition in the push for carbon neutrality, Japan is increasingly dependent on overseas suppliers for renewable energy technology and raw materials, necessitating urgent action. Whereas previous studies have focused mainly on climate change strategies, this research project is one of the first to consider the security of energy supplies in the context of the regional security implications. We examine strategies that utilize fundamental Japanese technologies and consider how these can be used to formulate international rules and rebuild supply networks. The findings are to be released in the form of a final report designed to inform Japanese government policy.
