Project Outline
In order to realize gender equality and a diverse, equitable, and inclusive society, it is necessary not only to protect and empower women, but also to understand the nature of men (masculinity), including their attitudes, work styles, and lifestyles, in order to implement appropriate policy measures in cooperation with various disciplines. This project will focus on the themes of masculinity and care, masculinity and violence, and the diversity and transformations of masculinities. It aims to explore, deepen, and disseminate knowledge on diverse definitions of masculinity, especially those rooted in the Asia region, which have received scant attention until now. In addition, we will launch a website on the Research on Masculinities in Japan and Asia and regularly publish articles, research reports, and more on the topic of masculinity.
