Project Outline
We currently find ourselves in a new era of the movement of peoples, which is characterized by a mixture of both permanent and circular migration. Within this environment, we will build a model of self-help and mutual aid initiated by local communities through a variety of actors from both the public and private sectors in Japan. We will contribute to the development of a symbiotic, inclusive society that accepts foreign residents and workers by promoting cooperation between migrant-sending and migrant-receiving countries in Asia, as well as by sharing this model of self-help and mutual aid.
Specifically, we will conduct fact-finding surveys in areas of Japan that receive migrants and refugees and develop mechanisms for self-help and mutual aid, solve problems and build cooperative relationships with sending countries, and strengthen platforms for dialogue and development of policy proposals for East and Southeast Asia.
