Master of science (atmospheric environment) at the Graduate School of Environmental Sciences, University of Tsukuba in 1985,
Ph.D. (Natural Sciences), Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich in 1989.
Lecturer at Kitami Institute of Technology in 1989, assistant professor in 1991, professor in 1996, professor at the National Institute of Polar Research in 2011, and project professor in 2023.
