Abstract
A year has passed since the discharge into the ocean of "treated water" stored at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant began. During this period, China, which had been Japan's largest export destination for marine products, protested against the discharge and embargoed it, and the impacts of the discharge were felt both domestically and internationally. This report examines the path forward for Japan's fisheries industry, analyzing not only export trends and fish prices one year after the release, but also long-term trends in seafood consumption in Japan.
