In recent years, marine pollution caused by plastic waste and its impact on the ecosystem have been receiving much attention as a significant problem globally, even in the Arctic. As such, research on plastic pollution in the Arctic has been growing. The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of the knowledge gained so far on plastic pollution in the Arctic, based on a review of existing research and literature, and identify information gaps. It will also introduce initiatives by the international community to resolve the plastic waste problem in the Arctic and present the future outlook.
