Caspian Sea's Environmental Issues

Associate Professor, Institute of Industrial Science, The University of TokyoThe Caspian Sea, because of its brackish-water region which has a long history, has a distinctive ecosystem especially the sturgeon. At the same time, it was discovered that the Caspian Sea is a repository of oil and natural gas resources. From now, it is expected that the development of underground resources will be vigorously pushed forward.With the development of underground resources, because discharged hazardous chemical substances have a great influence on the Caspian Sea ecosystem, neighboring countries must cooperate and give due consideration to environmental conservation.This article introduces the current situation of environmental issues in the Caspian Sea. -

The sturgeon is faced with extinction.There are international protection efforts but the situation has become so serious.Because of our self-indulgence, the sturgeon will be annihilated from the earth.To promote measures for the proper protection to recover this resource and as part of efforts to behave in a responsible manner as the world's leading consumer of caviar, Japan's sturgeon aquaculture is highly anticipated.

Presently, the world's aquatic resources are faced with resource depletion. This is due to changes in environmental resources and mistakes in fishing poeples' resource management, at the same time, brought on by the international distribution of fisheries products.Consumer participation in resource management is imperative for the sustainable use of aquatic resources.This article introduces the ecolabeling system on fish products which has broadened worldwides a tool and analyzes the current situation and challenges.
