[Information] COP28 Ocean-Related Meetings

The United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP28, will be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from 30 November - 12 December 2023. The Ocean Policy Research Institute of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (OPRI-SPF), with the support of the Nippon Foundation is a partner of the COP28 Ocean Pavilion. OPRI is also an inaugural member of the Ocean Pavilion which began at COP27 in Sharm-El-Sheik, Egypt. OPRI in collaboration with various partners will hold two official events at the Ocean Pavilion. Details of each event are as follows. Some events will be held online, so please join us.

Events in the Ocean Pavilion

At this side event, leaders and representatives from private foundations and research institutions will discuss challenges and future perspectives for enhancing the science-policy-stakeholder nexus, effectively tackling climate change and achieving a sustainable ocean in the region and reflect their perspectives in international policy discourse and implementation.
Dr. Hide Sakaguchi, President of OPRI, will be speaking and moderating a panel discussion at the event.

Role of Private Foundations in Empowering Stakeholders for Global Ocean Agenda

This side event aims to share innovative approaches to promoting adaptation to climate change in the fishery and aquaculture sector and articulating strategies for promoting financing and partnership in this field.​
Dr. Hide Sakaguchi, President of OPRI, will give opening remarks at the event. Mr. Masanori Kobayashi, Senior Research Fellow of OPRI will be speaking and moderating a panel discussion at the event.
