4/22 The 188th Ocean Forum “Japan-Norway Cooperation in the Maritime Sector: Reflections on its Expansion and Deepening”

OrganizerOcean Policy Research Institute of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (OPRI-SPF)

Japan and Norway both have a long history as maritime nations, and have shared these values and norms with each other. In addition, as core members of the High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy, which includes the leaders of 14 coastal states such as Palau, Japan and Norway share the importance of addressing the challenges of achieving Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG 14), to bring the state of the ocean out of crisis, and have suggested that there are many urgent solutions to secure a sustainable future for the oceans. Now, more than ever, Japan and Norway need to promote closer cooperation in order to steadily implement these challenges and measures.
In light of these domestic and international circumstances surrounding Japan and Norway, the 188th Ocean Forum aims to expand and deepen cooperation between the two nations in the ocean sector, to raise awareness of ocean issues, and to show how a sustainable ocean can be achieved based on the results of efforts by the Ocean Policy Research Institute of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (OPRI-SPF) and other relevant organizations in Japan and Norway.
