Lecture Information
The Sasakawa Peace Foundation is pleased to invited Mr. Randall G. Schriver, president and CEO of Project 2049 Institute and a founding partner of Armitage International LLC, for a discussion on the Asia-Pacific regional security landscape and the Japan-U.S. alliance. As one of the leading Asia-hands in the U.S. and head of a think tank specializing in providing solutions to security and policy issues in the Asia-Pacific, Mr. Schriver discussed U.S. goals and priorities in the region, and assessed the potential of the Japan-U.S. alliance to play a greater role in the region. In addition Mr. Schriver, who is also a member of the bipartisan "Armitage-Nye" working group led by former deputy secretary of state Richard L. Armitage and former dean of Harvard Kennedy School Dr. Joseph S. Nye Jr., drew his remarks from the findings and recommendations of the third report to be released by the working group in mid-August.
Mr. Schriver has extensive government experience as deputy assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific Affairs from 2003 to 2005 and as chief of staff and senior policy advisor to then-deputy secretary of state Richard Armitage, from 2001 to 2003. He served as foreign policy director for former 2012 Republican presidential nomination candidate Jon Huntsman.
