Social Integration toward a Participatory Society:
Changes in Demographic Structure, Disaster and Economic Crisis (March 9, 2012)
Closed.
- Invitation Letter ( 353.50KB)
Since the 2008 fiscal year, The Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) has conducted studies and projects primarily concerning policies for acceptance of foreign residents and workers, in order to respond to changes in the demographic structure in Japan.
We will hold a symposium based on the results of our activities carried out until now and on current situation.
In this symposium, we will first review the examples of Germany, where it has been seen that “multiculturalism has failed” in social integration during times of economic stress, and Singapore, which continues to enjoy economic growth with higher women’s labor force participation rate.
We will then discuss the acceptance of foreign residents and workers as well as social integration in Japan by giving focus to the keywords such as “economy,” “disasters,” “declining birth rates,” and “aging society” that allows for the active participation of various individuals including women, youth, retired workers , the disabled and foreigners.
We look forward to welcoming numerous participants to the symposium.
