The Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) invites former President of the Republic of Finland President Martti Ahtisaari, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2008 for his important efforts and achievements to resolve international conflicts in many parts of the world, including Namibia, Aceh, and Kosovo. During his stay in Japan, President Ahtisaari will give a “masterclass” on peace mediation in Tokyo, on Friday, November 25th. We believe this masterclass will be a unique opportunity both to learn from President Ahtisaari’s efforts for conflict resolution and peace building, and to search for potential roles Japan could play in this field.
This masterclass will be a closed event held for people pursuing a career in the field of conflict resolution and peace building. Participants will be able to ask questions directly to the President, and learn from his experiences. For details of the requirements for application, please see the information below. Due to limited number of seats,we call for applications for 10 participants.In addition to the “masterclass”, SPF will host a public lecture program by President Ahtisaari on Thursday, November 24th, to which you are cordially invited to attend. (1) Have experience of working for projects on/conducting research on conflict resolution or peace building

Please submit a short bio (around one A4 page), as well as a short essay answering one of the two following questions:
(1) What have been the most significant features/types of the past efforts by the Japanese government, development agencies, and civil societies for peace building?
(2) What potential roles could Japan could play in advancing conflict resolution and peace building in the world? - Deadline:
