"After Afghanistan: American Power and Purpose in the 21st Century"
Invitation to A Lecture by Mr. Nathaniel C. Fick (CEO, Center for a New American Security)(2011.11.7)
Closed.
More than a decade has passed since the U.S. troops first went into Afghanistan after the Al Qaeda attacks of September 11, 2001. Though uncertainties remain and U.S. efforts to defeat Al Qaeda continue, Osama Bin Laden's death in May and President Obama's plans for troop withdrawal this summer appear to mark the beginning of an end to the longest war in American history.
How will the United States come out of the War in Afghanistan? What would become of American power and its purpose in the 21st century? The Sasakawa Peace Foundation has invited Mr. Nathaniel C. Fick, CEO of the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), to address this topic, drawing on his experience as a Marine Corps infantry officer serving in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq. Mr. Fick is the author of the 2005 New York Times bestseller One Bullet Away, recognized as one of the “Best Books of the Year” by The Washington Post and one of the "Best Military Books of the Decade" by The Military Times (https://www.cnas.org/people/nathaniel-c-fick) .
