Musashino Mitaka Medifes 2010
Invitation to a Session Organized by the Sasakawa Peace Foundation
"Conflict and Peace Building in Asia~Initiatives by Citizen Media" on Sep. 4 (Sat)
Closed.
In Asia, there are regions such as Aceh and Kalimantan in Indonesia and countries such as East Timor that face the challenges of reconstruction and reconciliation after a conflict. There are also regions, such as Southern Thailand and Mindanao, where conflict is still taking place. In these (former) conflict regions, citizen media play active roles in conflict resolution and peace building.
This session will introduce the initiatives carried out by citizen media, such as the efforts of community radio to facilitate inter-ethnic dialogue or trust building, and the work of the web media to provide information on the conflict situation to international society,. Ideally, the session will promote discussion of future collaboration with Japanese citizen media.
