Project Outline
While “de-radicalization” has been promoted as a global agenda encompassing a range of programs from prevention to de-radicalization, there are concerns over human rights violation as well as the potential risk of escalation of antagonism between recipients of these interventions and security forces. This project proposes an intervention program for “deradicalization” in Indonesia and Bangladesh, based on vigorous analysis of radicalization processes of targeted groups as well as scientifically objective framework for evaluation. Lessons from such experiences will be shared with the international community. In addition, since “de-radicalization” is expected to become an increasingly important issue in Japan, this project seeks to bring the Japanese experiences of supporting disengagement from violent extremist groups, including religious cults, to international policy discussions on violent extremism and promote dialogues between experts.
