Pantropical plants with sea-drifted seeds are distributed across extremely wide areas. The wide distribution areas have been explained largely by their high dispersal ability of seeds. However, there are no empirical data to infer their expansion routes and amount of gene flow via sea-drifted seeds. This article introduces recent molecular approach to provide insight into their evolutionary processes.
