The Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs) are intended to serve as international guidelines for promoting women's empowerment. The goal is to improve the vitality and growth of corporate activities by encouraging enterprises to prioritize gender equality and women's empowerment in their management. This project was developed in 2010 through multi-stakeholder international engagement and collaboration between the UN Global Compact and the United Nations Development Fund for Women (now UN Women). We released the Japanese version of the framework report to help companies encourage gender-related information disclosure and promote gender equality.
Companies can use the “WEPs Transparency and Accountability Framework” to track their progress on gender equality and women's empowerment across their value chains. The framework can be utilized to follow, report, and disclose progress information not only on the WEPs but also on other action guidelines and frameworks including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UN Principles for Business and Human Rights.
We hope the report will be useful for companies to promote gender equality.
