Project Outline
The use of financial mechanisms to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has increasingly become part of the expansive and diversified efforts to support philanthropy on a global scale. Notably, financial strategies to achieve these global goals have expanded beyond more conventional grant programs toward incorporating social concerns directly into investment and financial decision making. The Gender Investment and Innovation Department at SPF seeks to use financial investment as a vehicle to tackle gender issues, most notably through the Asia Women Impact Fund, established in 2017 as part of the foundation’s efforts to achieve SDG 5 (gender equality). As a gender lens investment practitioner, the foundation can observe the impact of this type of investment and share lessons learned to promote an ecosystem conducive to greater gender lens investing across Asia. Specific projects include research and arranging workshops and conferences to promote understanding and awareness of gender lens investing in Asia while facilitating networking and partnership building.
