About the Conference

The Second Inter-Polar Conference (IPC 2025) provides a platform to advance scientific understanding and collaborative solutions for cryosphere preservation, focusing on climate change impacts in the Arctic and Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) regions as well as the possible impacts to the downstream ocean.
Jointly organized by OPRI-SPF, the Arctic Centre of the University of Lapland, and ICIMOD, in collaboration with the UArctic Chair in Arctic Legal Research and the UArctic Law Thematic Network, IPC 2025 supports the objectives of the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation (IYGP 2025) and the UN Decade of Action for Cryospheric Sciences (2025–2035).

Conference Themes

  • Understanding Cryosphere Changes – Climate impacts, extreme events, food & water security, socio-ecosystem changes.
  • Protection & Conservation – Governance, adaptation strategies, transboundary challenges, science diplomacy.
  • Socio-Cultural Dimensions – Indigenous perspectives, community resilience, artistic and spiritual representations.

01 Dec 2025 – Final paper submission for journal consideration

  • Selected authors will present at the conference.
  • Papers will be considered for publication in the Italian Polar Journal (IL POLO).
  • Travel and accommodation must be arranged by participants; financial assistance is not provided.
