The Republic of Korea requests the United States to revise the draft of the San Francisco Peace Treaty

The Republic of Korea Ambassador to the United States Dr. Yu Chan Yang called upon Ambassador John Foster Dulles on July 19, 1951. He presented Dulles with a note addressed to the Secretary of State Dean Acheson, requesting on behalf of his government that the United States amend draft peace treaty with Japan in a number of ways. Among these, Ambassador Yang requested that Article 2 (a) within the June 1951 draft peace treaty – the revised US-British version – be replaced with, “[Japan] confirms that it renounced on August 9, 1945 all right, title and claim to Korea and the islands which were part of Korea prior to its annexation by Japan, including the islands Quelpart, Port Hamilton, Dagelet, Dokdo and Parangdo.” (Ref.1)
