The Ogasawara Islands are oceanic islands that have never been connected to a continental landmass, and as a result they are home to a large number of endemic plants and animals, forming a unique ecosystem. This section describes the characteristics of the flora and fauna of the Ogasawara Islands, as well as non-native species that threaten the ecosystems of endemic species.
