Nyeらによる”The U.S.-Japan Alliance in 2020 AN EQUAL ALLIANCE WITH A GLOBAL AGENDA”と題する政策提言（いわゆる「アーミテージ・ナイレポート」）を掲載し、ここでArmitageらは台頭する中国への対応も念頭にいわゆるファイブアイズへの日本の加入を含む日米協力強化を訴えているが、過酷なパンデミック状況下、感染症対策についても日米協力、広範な国際協力の必要性について言及している。

12月7日付の米シンクタンクForeign Policy Research Instituteのウェブサイトは米シンクタンクThe Atlantic Council, the Scowcroft Center副所長でGeorgetown University教授Matthew KroenigとThe Scowcroft Center Global Strategy Initiativeのプログラムアシスタント Jeffrey Cimminoの”China Is Both Weak and Dangerous”と題する論説を掲載し、ここでKroenigらは中国という特異な国家の強権性と脆弱性について、DanBlumenthalの著書The China Nightmare：The Grand Ambitions of a Decaying Stateを引用しつつ論ずる中で、COVID-19のパンデミックが米中の競争関係を激化させたことについて言及している。

米議会調査局は12月16日付で”U.S. Role in the World: Background and Issues for Congress”と題する国際社会における米国の役割に関する調査報告を発表し、その1節に”Potential Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic”の項が設けられ、COVID-19のパンデミックは国際社会に長期的変動をもたらす可能性があり、米国が果たすべき役割は大きいとして同局がこれまで随時提示してきた関連の報告書を参照するよう提言している。
