Tom Sutton is a research fellow at the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, having joined in 2023. He previously earned a BA in Japanese Studies with first-class honours from the University of Durham in 2020, and subsequently progressed to the University of Oxford, where he attended as a fully funded Daiwa Scholar in Japanese Studies and earned an MPhil in Japanese Studies with distinction in 2022. He also spent a year studying at the University of Tokyo in 2018.

Tom's research interests include the political and security issues surrounding the US military bases in Okinawa; relations between Japan, the US, and China; issues relating to Japanese intelligence and counter-intelligence; and British foreign policy.
