Methodology
  Based on the approaches described above, the Project will take the following three steps to devise its proposal for a new Japanese national security strategy which will identify a policy package of defense, alliance and diplomacy.
 
  In short, the task of the Project is to specify (i) Japanese security interests and their geographic distribution, (ii) to identify actual and potential dangers to those interests, and (iii) to show how Japan should deploy its defense capability, US-Japan alliance, and diplomatic initiatives to optimally protect Japan’s security interests.
