Women in fishing villages, who until now for the most part worked behind the scenes in fulfilling their household duties or on behalf of their local areas, have come into the spotlight through their entrepreneurial activities and independent comments. Umi Hito Kurashi forum, or "Forum for Sea, People and Life, in support of fishing village women, is expanding its women’s network by actively involving those women who are undertaking a variety of fishery related activities.
