Feasibility Study on Transfer of Environmentally Friendly Technology

Project contents
Because of their unique environmental conditions, the communities of the Pacific island region face distinctive problems in such key tasks as providing sufficient drinking water, disposing of waste, and finding alternatives to fossil-fuel sources of electric power. Japan, which with over 800 islands has long been grappling with problems of the same nature, has much to offer the Pacific island nations by way of advice on environmentally sound technology. To help facilitate such technology transfer from Japan to the Pacific island region, this project was aimed at fostering cooperation between Japan and the Pacific island nations for developing the region's human resources in that field. In a significant step toward that goal, the project enabled a delegation from the South Pacific Forum and the South Pacific Regional Environment Programme to observe operations and exchange views with counter- parts at several environment-related organizations and facilities in Japan.
