Teaching the Pacific Forum

Project contents
High school social science teachers from various parts of the Pacific Island region met in the Solomon Islands in December 1995. In accordance with the four-year plan formulated at the meeting, the following activities were conducted under this project in FY 1996.
A regional Teaching the Pacific Forum (TTPF) workshop was held in July at the University of Hawaii, at which delegates discussed such topics as development of teaching materials and education policies. TTPF delegates also attended a meeting of the Pacific History Association, at which they introduced the present project. A sub-regional workshop was held in November in Papua New Guinea, and in-country workshops took place in Vanuatu and Fiji in September and October, respectively. At the annual conference of the Pacific Regional Education Laboratory (PREL), held in August in Pohnpei, agreement was reached on PREL-TTPF cooperation in developing and distributing teaching materials. Books and other publications published under the project so far are: Our History in Our Own Words; A Guide to 100 Good Books; A Guide to Student Essays and Projects; Teachers, Teaching and History; the Honiara Report; and the TTPF newsletter Update. A website was also established to enhance the dissemination of TTPF-related information.
