This project provided scholarships to students from Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam to undertake a 14month master's program in rural development management offered by Khon Kaen University in Thailand. Of the total of 54 students who have entered the pro- gram since its inception in 1993, 35 (or 65%) have been recipients of this scholarship. Many graduates of the course have since taken up active roles in the rural development of their respective home countries in a variety of capacities, including as university lecturers, government officials, and development consultants for NGOs. Thanks to the success of this project, the Thai government plans to draw on its Thai Aid program― established to foster both domestic human resources and those of its neighbors in Indochina―to set up its own scholarship for Indochinese students taking the course.
