1. Background and Purpose:
- Initially the idea to organize a Pacific Islands event was realized last year with the Pacific Night, an evening of food, drinks, and display of local products from the five Pacific Islands Embassies in Tokyo. The 'Pacific Night' coincided with the JATA World Travel Fair 2007 and was held at Hotel Nikko in Daiba, Tokyo.
This year the five Embassies have decided to stage an expanded version of the Pacific Night and officially coin it the 'Pacific Islands Festa'. The Pacific Islands Festa will run over a three day period with exhibition and sales of local products, seminars on trade and investment opportunities and video presentations of various tourist attractions.
Main purpose of the Pacific Islands Festa is three fold: (1) To stimulate awareness to the positives attributes of the Pacific region as a source market for imports and 'tradables' to Japan (2) To stimulate awareness and interest on various investment opportunities in the Pacific region, and (3) Considering the cordial relations that has existed between the five engaged countries and Japan, it is hoped that the Pacific Festa will provide another golden opportunity to further strength friendship between the five respective countries and Japan.
