Project Outline
In recent years, countries in the region including Japan, the U.S., Australia, India, and Southeast Asia are forming multiple layers of security partnerships and promoting a constellation of policy frameworks that fall under an overarching regional concept of the “Indo-Pacific”. European Union as well as numbers of European countries such as UK, France, Germany and the Netherlands have also expressed their intention to increase their involvement in this region, an area that continues to experience rapid economic growth alongside an increasingly murky political outlook. However, the roles of these European countries are still limited and they are not fully incorporated in these discussions. For these reasons, it is necessary to bring together working-level officials and researchers from these countries, which share the common interest of maintaining regional stability and the current world order, to engage in debate, foster consensus, and lay the foundation for future policy cooperation.
This project seeks to support work toward maintaining the order and stability of the Indo-Pacific region by bringing together policymakers and researchers from Asian and European countries to foster common understanding about key issues in the region and explore the potential direction for furthering collaboration.
