Three students from the Pacific Islands region were awarded scholarships to study in the economics department of Asia University. The students were also assigned tutors to ensure they maintained their health and study progress during their stay, to involve them in community activities, and to advise them on their personal and academic futures. Two of the students successfully completed their courses this year and returned to their home countries, one becoming a school teacher and the other taking a position in the ministry of foreign affairs. The third student continued with a busy life of study plus duties as chairman of the Pacific Islanders Friendship Association, an organization for Pacific Islanders studying in Japan.
