Project contents
This project aims to promote exchange between media personnel from the Pacific island nations and their counterparts in Japan. In FY 1995, ten Pacific islanders were invited to Tokyo and Ishigakijima, a remote island in Okinawa Prefecture, and six Japanese journalists visited Fiji at the invitation of the Pacific Islands News Association. The visitors from the Pacific islands were struck by the high level of volunteerism among the people of Ishigakijima, and by their keen awareness of the similarity of issues facing island communities in Japan and in the Pacific.
