Project contents
The purpose of this project is to promote deeper understanding of Japan in the Pacific Island nations by inviting media personnel from the region to Japan to take part in exchange activities and gather information for media reports in their home countries. The project is being carried out as one of SPF's self-implemented projects, with host committees being organized on the Okinawan islands of Ishigakijima and Miyakojima.
This year, one long-stay guest from Papua New Guinea and three short-stay guest from Vanuatu took part in the project. From their experience touring the Yaeyama Islands and various other parts of Japan, the visitors produced over 30 news articles which were published in their home countries. In a reciprocal activity, three journalists from Yaeyama and Miyakojima visited Vanuatu and produced media reports about the country upon their return to Japan.
