Mobilization of Financial Resources for Development in Myanmar

Project contents
Building up Myanmar's domestic financial resources is crucial to the country's successful long-term development. This project facilitates policy research on aspects of that task, including the establishment of modern financial institutions, the establishment of financial intermediary functions and the revision of monetary policy.
In this first year of the project, research focused on such topics as the current state of Myanmar's mobilization of domestic financial resources and the problems encountered; the savings-investment gap; the issue of financial deepening; and the creation of a financial system which would promote domestic investment. Furthermore, an international workshop was held in Singapore to allow participants from Myanmar to exchange views and share experiences related to the research topics with scholars and researchers from Japan and other Southeast Asian countries.
