Confidence Building in Security among Southeast Asian Countries and Japan

Project contents
Myanmar is isolated from the international community, so this project aims to provide training related to globalization and national security to military personnel in Myanmar and to deepen their knowledge of current international affairs. Initially, plans for the program were to hold workshops featuring lectures and role-playing exercises pertaining to international relations and Asian security affairs for approximately 50 mid-level and retired officers from Myanmar, and then to select 10 of the participants to invite to Japan for lectures and inspections relating to security affairs and Asian regional affairs.
However, as with fiscal 2006, the government of Myanmar did not grant approval for the program, so the activities were not conducted as had been planned. Under the self-operated component of this project, the Prateepsasana Foundation for Educational Development conducted interviews of intellectuals from ASEAN countries and drafted reports on the measures needed to improve foreign countries' understanding of the situation confronting Myanmar today.
