Supporting Journalism in Asia/Phase II

Project contents
Information dissemination from Asia has not kept pace with the greater political and economic prevalence the region now commands in the world. This project aims to expand and enhance networks of Asian journalists built by the Fund and to strengthen the infrastructure for disseminating voices from Asia.
In fiscal 2007 the project continued the previous year's efforts to disseminate the views of Asian intellectuals and political and business leaders through the AsiaViews online weekly magazine (www.asiaviews.org) and the Asia Views monthly print magazine, now distributed free of charge to around 25,000 people every month in five East Asian countries.
This project, with the aim of identifying outstanding young journalists and expanding networks, held the Eighth Asian Journalists Forum in February 2008 in Bangkok. Roughly 25 journalists and scholars across Asia discussed issues confronting the media in the context of global warming and climate change. As another part of the project, special practical training was offered to young journalists from Myanmar and Tajikistan.
