Developing Business Teaching Materials in Vietnam

Project contents
Although Vietnam continues to experience high economic growth, the level of business management studies in the country is still lagging, with MBA courses being taught using Western teaching materials without any changes to the content. This project aims to improve business management studies by providing guidance to instructors and graduate students in Vietnam while developing business case study materials that reflect the business management realities of Vietnam.
Workshops on the methodology of business case study development were organized in Vietnam in June 2007 and January 2008 under the guidance of Professor Osamu Nariai of Reitaku University, Professor Emeritus Kim Kee-Young of South Korea's Yonsei University, and professors from Singapore Management University. Under the supervision of foreign experts, instructors from the University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City, and the Hanoi Agricultural University created case studies of 14 Vietnamese companies. Training for Vietnamese project members also involved study tours in Japan, South Korea, and Singapore. Nineteen case writers visited leading Asian business schools and well-known companies, where they learned case teaching and observed the management realities of typical businesses.
