A Japan Self-Defense Forces delegation of 11 field officers, led by a Major General, visited Vietnam for a 13-day trip beginning June 7, 2015. The officers paid a courtesy call to Lieutenant General Nguyen Quoc Khanh (Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Vietnam People's Army), had an informal discussion with Major General Vu Chien Thang (Director General of the Department of Foreign Relations, Ministry of National Defense), and visited the Border Defense Force Academy, Ho Chi Minh City's Military Command, and the land, sea, and air forces of Vietnam. These visits and discussions served to provide the Japanese delegation with a greater overall understanding of the Vietnam People's Army, while also achieving exchange between Japanese and Vietnamese military management at the field-officer level. The Japanese delegation also visited Vietnam's historical landmarks and deepened their understanding of Vietnam's culture and history.
