Invitation to a seminar "The Kashmir Challenge and its Impact on Neighboring Areas" on Feb 3, 2011
Closed.

The Sasakawa Peace Foundation and Slavic Research Center (Hokkaido University) will hold a joint seminar at the Nippon Foundation Building on February 3, entitled “The Kashmir Conflict and Impacts on the Surrounding Area.”

Japan-India relations are entering a new stage, marked by the visit to Japan by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh last October. The Prime Ministers of both countries issued a joint statement, titled “Vision for Japan-India Strategic and Global Partnership in the Next Decade,” and signed the “Japan-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.” In response, Japan-India relations in the areas of politics, security, and economy, are expected to become closer and more amicable.

The Kashmir issue underlies Indian politics as well as foreign relations and many of its actions, and Japan cannot advance in its relations with India, without a good understanding of this issue. This seminar will be presented by Delhi University’s Professor Navnita Chadha Behera, an expert on issues relating to Kashmir.
