Enhancement of Teaching, Research, Information and Publishing Capacity for the Academy of Finance

Project contents
As part of public finance reform in Vietnam, the Academy of Finance (under the Ministry of Finance) promotes efficient and transparent public finance policy management at both central and local government levels and also serves to disseminate market information as the country continues to transition to a market economy and internationalize. With the cooperation of the experts from East Asia, this project aims to train Vietnamese specialists who can direct the education of financial officials at the local government level, and to strengthen information dissemination capabilities through the use of economic publications and databases.
This year, lecturers from Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Singapore were invited to speak at a training workshop held December 4-5, 2006 in Hanoi. About 70 people were in attendance, mostly mid-level government officials from the Ministry of Finance and researchers from the Academy of Finance. Twelve experts from the Academy of Finance who attended the training workshop then visited the University of Malaya in Malaysia and Singapore Management University January 6-12, 2007, where they had opportunities to learn more about the financial policies, tax administration and financial legal framework of those countries. Another 12 people visited the Samsung Economic Research Institute and Busan Development Research Institute in South Korea January 20-28, where they underwent training on the dissemination of market information.
