portrait_Chellaney-web.png The Sasakawa Peace Foundation has been implementing the project entitled "Asian Opinion Leaders' Exchange" since the fiscal year 2014. The objective of this project is to enhance mutual understanding and strengthen collaboration between Japan and Asian countries through inviting Asian opinion leaders to Japan and engaging them in dialogue with Japanese policy makers, scholars and business leaders.

On September 29 2015, the Sasakwa Peace Foundation will organize a public seminar on national security by inviting Professor Brahma Chellaney of the Center for Policy Research in New Delhi, India, who will be the first invitee of this project in this fiscal year. He is the former advisor to the National Security Council of India, and known worldwide as an expert in this field. As an opinion leader, he has also been active in speaking to the media in India and many other countries including Japan. Professor Chellaney will talk about the Japan' security dilemma and its future challenges taking into account the Japan's advocated pacifism, the long-term Japan-US alliance and the recent development in the Japan's national security issues including the right to collective self-defense and the arms-export ban.

We believe that this seminar will be a unique opportunity to address the Japan's pacifism and the latest development of national security issues from holistic viewpoints taking into account the Japan's stance in Asia. We look forward to welcoming all of you at this seminar.
