Project Outline
This project aims to deepen mutual understanding between Japan and the Middle East by strengthening the capacity of both sides to disseminate information relevant to each region. During this project year, the Fund will continue to host the ''Seminar for Middle Eastern Islamic Diplomats Resident in Japan' as a means to increase understanding of the politics and economy of Japan. Additionally, it will host seminars given by ambassadors of various countries resident in Japan on the current status of the Islamic Middle East. A seminar to disseminate information about Japan will also be held in Iran. With Iran becoming increasingly isolated from the international community, this seminar will be held in Iran by the Iranian government-affiliated think tank known as the Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS) on subjects such as the politics and economy of Japan. It is hoped that these seminars will serve not only to increase understanding of Japan among Iranian diplomats and experts in relevant fields, but also to keep channels of communication open between Japan and Iran with the aim of facilitating future cooperation between the two countries. The main focus of this fund since its establishment has been the Arabic language website alyaban.net. Since October 2012 the site has been undergoing reform for its incorporation into Nippon.com, the multiple language website for understanding Japan. The Fund, which created and maintained alyaban.net, will ensure that the site is integrated smoothly into its new host.
